The Changing Faces of Meghan Markle's Engagement Ring, Let's Talk About It!

Meghan Markle, now Meghan the Duchess of Sussex, is an American former actress, born on August 4, 1981, in Los Angeles, California, USA. Meghan became widely known for her role as Rachel Zane on the television series "Suits,", yet is better know as the beautiful actress that captured Prince Harry's heart in July 2016 after Harry saw a video of Meghan on Instagram using the dog filter.

Harry and Meghan embarked upon a whirlwind romance shortly after meeting and vowed to spend no longer than two weeks apart. Meghan, at the time was still filming her hit TV show legal drama and was living over the pond in Canada.

After around a year of dating, Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle in November 2017. The engagement was officially announced by Clarence House on November 27, 2017. Following the announcement, they appeared for a photo call and interview, sharing details about the proposal, their relationship, yet most importantly the royal engagement ring!

Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle with a custom-designed engagement ring that he himself designed himself. The engagement ring itself features a three stone design with the center stone sourced from Botswana, a country that holds sentimental value in the young couples relationship.

As read in Prince Harry's memoir Spare, Prince Harry invited Meghan on a trip to Botswana early in their relationship, not long after their first date, to get to know eachother properly and for Prince Harry to share with Meghan a special part of the world he'd held dear for a very long time. The trip took place in the summer of 2016, and it was a significant moment in their courtship and where the two fell in love. In Botswana, Meghan and Harry were able to spend quality time together away from the public eye and paparazzi, to truly enjoy each other without worrying about the prying eye of the press.

Adding to the sentimental significance of Meghan's engagement ring, the center diamond is flanked by two smaller diamonds from the personal collection of Prince Harry's mother, Princess Diana. The ring design can be seen to reflect the young couples love and commitment to each other and their respect for Princess Diana's memory. The three diamonds are set on a yellow gold band creating an elegant and dainty three stone ring. The centre stone is thought to be around 3 carats in weight, with one carat of diamond rounds either side, creating a total of 5 carats all together,

Meghan Markle's wedding band, just like that of Catherine the Princess of Wales, is made of Welsh gold, which is a longstanding tradition in the British royal family. The wedding band was crafted from a special nugget of gold gifted to Prince Harry by Queen Elizabeth II. This tradition of using Welsh gold for royal wedding bands dates back to 1923 when it was first used for the wedding ring of the Queen Mother.

Meghan Markle's wedding band is a simple, classic design complements her engagement ring beautifully.

The royal wedding ceremony between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry took place on May 19, 2018, at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.

A year or so after the wedding Meghan, now the Duchess of Sussex was spotted with an upgraded version of her original engagement ring which see's the three stones set on a dainty micro pave band, as opposed to the original yellow gold band Harry proposed with. The upgrade also features several micro pave stones set within the platinum channel the diamonds sit in.

After the birth of their first child, Meghan is seen sporting a dainty, micro pave ring as a push present from Prince Harry which is said to have been designed be renowned celebrity Jeweller Lorraine Schwartz, who perhaps had a had in the revamp of Meghan's engagement ring.
