The Changing Faces of Meghan Markle's Engagement Ring, Let's Talk About It!

Meghan Markle: Engagement & Wedding Rings

Meghan Markle, now Meghan the Duchess of Sussex, is an American former actress, born on August 4, 1981, in Los Angeles, California, USA. Meghan became widely known for her role as Rachel Zane on the television series "Suits," yet is better known as the beautiful actress who captured Prince Harry's heart in July 2016 after he saw a video of Meghan on Instagram using the dog filter.

Harry and Meghan embarked upon a whirlwind romance shortly after meeting and vowed to spend no longer than two weeks apart. Meghan, at the time, was still filming her hit TV show legal drama and was living in Canada.

The Engagement

After around a year of dating, Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle in November 2017. The engagement was officially announced by Clarence House on November 27, 2017. Following the announcement, they appeared for a photo call and interview, sharing details about the proposal, their relationship, and most importantly the royal engagement ring!

Prince Harry proposed with a custom-designed engagement ring featuring a three-stone design. The center stone, sourced from Botswana, holds sentimental value for the couple. Flanking the center diamond are two smaller diamonds from Princess Diana's personal collection. The three diamonds are set on a yellow gold band, creating an elegant and dainty three-stone ring. The center stone is approximately 3 carats, with one carat of diamond rounds on each side, totalling 5 carats.

Wedding Bands

Meghan Markle's wedding band, like that of Catherine, Princess of Wales, is made of Welsh gold, a longstanding tradition in the British royal family. The gold was gifted to Prince Harry by Queen Elizabeth II. This tradition of using Welsh gold dates back to 1923, when it was first used for the Queen Mother's wedding ring.

The wedding band is a simple, classic design that complements her engagement ring beautifully. Their royal wedding took place on May 19, 2018, at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Engagement Ring Upgrade & Push Present

About a year after the wedding, Meghan was spotted with an upgraded version of her engagement ring, featuring three stones set on a dainty micro pave band instead of the original yellow gold. This update also included several micro pave stones set within the platinum channel.

After the birth of their first child, Meghan was seen wearing a dainty micro pave ring as a push present from Prince Harry, reportedly designed by celebrity jeweller Lorraine Schwartz.

The Royal Ring Stack

The three-ring stack — the three-stone engagement ring, yellow gold wedding band, and micro pave eternity band — creates an elegant collection. This style has inspired many and perfectly captures Meghan’s refined taste.

We loved Meghan Markle's engagement ring so much that we created our own version, which you can shop here!
