Kate Middleton, now Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, is one of our favourite members of the British royal family. The beautiful Duchess was born Catherine Elizabeth Middleton on January 9, 1982, in Reading, Berkshire, England.

Kate gained widespread public attention when she began dating Prince William, second in line to the British throne, whom she met whilst at University at St Andrews in Scotland.

The couple got engaged in 2010, much to the delight of the British public! Their wedding took place on April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey in London. The day was declared a public holiday, and millions across the nation celebrated by watching the fairytale Royal Wedding broadcast live.

After the wedding, Catherine became Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge.

The Iconic Sapphire Engagement Ring

Prince Charles proposed to Lady Diana Spencer with a blue sapphire engagement ring in February 1981. The ring, featuring a large oval blue sapphire surrounded by diamonds, became one of the most famous and recognizable pieces of jewellery in the world. Its design was a departure from traditional royal engagement rings and soared in popularity, symbolizing Princess Diana's timeless style and grace.

After Princess Diana's passing in 1997, the ring was passed down to her eldest son, Prince William. He famously proposed to Kate Middleton using his mother’s iconic sapphire engagement ring.

The Duchess pairs her sapphire engagement ring with a Welsh Gold wedding band, a traditional choice for royal wedding rings. The gold is sourced from the Clogau St. David's Gold Mine in Bontddu, North Wales. Welsh gold has been used in royal wedding bands since 1923, beginning with the wedding ring of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.
